Doll Quilt

My favorite brother's daughter has a baby girl who just turned one. I had given her a cute cradle for a doll, and finally finished this quilt to go with it. I want to make a pillow to go with it but need to contact my sister in law to find out the width of the cradle, don't want the pillow to be too small or too big.

S spent two hours yesterday installing a new ceiling fan in the living room. It is very large but gorgeous, craftsman style, I really like it.

This sun room is too small but when just two people sit out there it is very comfortable. It helps to lessen the impact of my torn up backyard that is taking forever because of the constant rain and wind we have been experiencing. I know when they are finished it will be beautiful.

Leave for the beach house soon, boy we all need it. Can't wait.

Dinner out and row by row

Meet A, she is 7 years old, exceptionally smart, very cute and very patient with adults. S and I went out to dinner with our young friend and her parents. Here she is enjoying her sorbet. I also had pictures of me enjoying my creme brulee as well, but have chosen thankfully not to publish those. We all had a lovely evening, and hope to go out again.

Secondly, is my row by row. My sewing group did a row by row project, and instead of a wallhanging or big quilt, I decided on a door banner for my sewing room. The colors are very bright, and everyone made beautiful rows. I am experimenting finishing it, but am limited as it can only be as wide as the door. So borders have to be small, but I like small.

Best of all, B and P are buying a beautiful home with lots of character, that I absolutely adore and know they will be happy with it. Congrats, you two.

On our walk

The weather today is exceptionally mild, so Clare, the wonder dog and I went out on our usual walk, but in the morning instead of the afternoon.
Halfway into our walk, I see this small deer. It is so still and so daintily posed, I was sure it was a yard ornament. It was a good distance away, but with the new camera I got for mothers day, I tried to zoom, but it's hard to aim when Clare is moving around, wanting to walk, not understanding why I am standing still. (she never saw the deer).
But the moral of this story is....ALWAYS bring your camera with you, so instead of just telling someone about the deer I saw, I can show you...

Backyards and Beauties

This is my backyard...looks like a backyard where trees come to die, but I hope it will someday be, lush and green with grass and a kitchen garden.
I know some people are thinking, why cut down trees? Mostly because of the four acres we live on, this will be the only part that is not forest. I love forest, but would also love a backyard, and grass....and a place for a swing set, once my children get on the ball and give me a few grandchildren....(did I say that?)

But even with the "backyard" looking so bad, some things around this house give me solace. Like the flower beds around the house, my lovely roses, amazing irises, and of course, Clare.

Clare found something irresistable out in the woods, had to roll in it for at least as long as it took for S to pull her away. But of course she smelled like rotting corpse. Giving a smelly dog a bath first thing in the morning is not my idea of fun, but she smells sweet now and her fur is so soft.

Clare, the wonder dog!
